Personal Branding Photos with Kate Hughes - Your Step Coach

We were delighted to have leadership coach Kate Hughes from Your Step Coach in the studio recently - Kate trained as a transformational coach and now specialises in unpicking the stories we tell ourselves and how they hold us back so that we can experience radical transformation.

Like most of my clients, Kate runs a service based business so photos are an integral part of how she connects with her potential clients.

We wanted to bring in her brand colours, but I was also given free reign to add in some additional palettes which I picked out from her favourite outfits.

Although it can feel a bit silly at the time of the shoot, one thing a lot of my clients find very helpful is doing photos where they are pointing or looking to the side.

I then extend the background in Photoshop so they can add text. It makes great content to use on socials where you want to get a short snappy point across highlighting a bigger idea.

We did lots of these kind of photos for Kate and it’s been great seeing her put them to use immediately on her socials!

Let’s have a little chat with her…

So Kate, Introduce yourself and what you do

My name’s Kate Hughes and I’m the founder of Your Step Coach. I’m a leadership development coach, mentor and facilitator. This means I work with leaders at all levels (although I’ve a particular interest in helping people new to leadership positions make the transition from individual contributor, to leader of people) develop the skills needed to lead with courage, confidence and empathy.

What are your biggest achievements/wins/ the thing you are most proud of?

I’m most proud of setting up and running my own business. I qualified as a coach several years ago and have been working in leadership development for a fair while, but it took the pandemic and a large restructure of the management consultancy I worked in, to give me the push to go it alone. I love what I do and it’s an honour to get to work with so many different people, some are just starting their leadership journeys, while others are dab hands at leadership and are looking to keep learning and growing.

Why did you need new photos?

It’s important to have up to date photos for my website, social channels and brochures. I had a few previous ones but felt it was time for a refresh.

What are your brand words and how did you want to come across in your pictures?

My brand values are courageous, curious and caring. These all come across in the photos from the bold colours to the strong poses – Rosie really brings out a sense of characterand fun.

Why did you decide to work with me rather than another photographer/ what do you think about my work?

I love Rosie’s use of colour – it helps her clients stand out from the crowd. Rosie is so easy to work with. She’s an absolute expert in her field and her photos are instantly recognisable.

- How was the experience? (how you felt before/after or during the shoot/ your favourite part)

Honestly, I am so awkward in front of a camera. Rosie made me feel completely at ease and got a lot of laughs throughout the day. From the moment she collected me at Exeter station, through to the music she had playing and the fabulous food provided. I was well looked after and nothing was too much trouble to help me feel at home and able to be me in the pics.

Well done Kate, you were fabulous and we loved having you in the studio!
